More than 80 guests have attended the Mercury Glee Club’s performance at Lane End Conference Centre. The performance which took place inside the Pavilion function room was one of four performances in England for the Mercury Glee Club from Tokyo. They performed English choral music followed by Japanese contemporary music, Japanese folk songs and a selection of international songs. The Wycombe Choral Society was invited for a joined performance with the Mercury Glee Club which made for an unforgettable finale.
Mercury Glee Club was founded in 1999 by former members of Chor Merkur, the all male-choir of Tokyo's Hitotsubashi University. Under the leadership of Hiroshi Nagai, the resident conductor of MGC since its foundation, and under the technical guidence and training of Nobuyuki Tanaka, one of the top choral conductors of Japan and guest conductor of MGC since 2005, the Club has gained an excellent reputation both in Japan and abroad through regular concerts of its own in Japan and concert tours in France, Germany and Italy every other year so far.
