Lane End Conference Centre Helps Train Future Vets

RVC Team Building at Lane End Conference CentreRoyal Veterinary College (RVC) chose Lane End Conference Centre for its first UK-based experiential learning event.

Over 60 trainee vets, veterinary nurses and veterinary science students from across the country descended on the training venue for the three-day residential course.

Designed to help the undergraduates develop their business and leadership skills, the agenda included morning lectures followed by a series of energetic team building activities to get everyone working together.

In the evenings delegates enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by Head Chef Mike Day and his team.

Building on the course’s aim to enhance delegates’ communication and leadership skills, the training venue made sure to incorporate networking opportunities into the evening meals.

On the first night the vets-to-be swapped places between courses. Whilst for the group dinner, each table was supplied with paper table cloths and marker pens to note down ideas to be shared in an open discussion post-dinner.

RVC were thrilled with how the course went and feedback from the students and staff members was extremely complimentary.

Dr Mandi de Mestre, the main organiser from RVC, said: “The course proved to be a really inspiring and effective learning experience.

“The conference centre facilities presented the ideal environment for facilitating the delegates learning.

“A number of the students also remarked on the value of using a dedicated experiential learning venue with fixed activities to demonstrate effective team working skills.”

Lane End’s Sales and Marketing Manager, Heni Fourie, said: “We were really pleased to welcome RVC. The group made great use of the facilities, particularly the team building challenges.

“Experiential learning is really popular in America, so it is heartening to see more professions adopting learning through action as part of their training and development programmes.”
