5 THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE BOOKING A HOTEL

1.POLICIES & PROCEDURES

Hotels are allowed to reopen as long as it is operating in line with Government advice and guidelines. There are, however, no set mandate, leaving it to individual properties to implement their policies and procedures. 

As a potential customer, you should ask to see the hotel policy in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic and opening safely.   

Things to look out for is the use of PPE, social distancing measures, staff interaction with customers and cleaning of bedrooms. Many hotels operate contactless check-in and check-out measures, with minimal or no contact between guests and staff throughout their stay. You may also want to consider the cancellation policy and flexibility should plans change as a result of the pandemic.

2.THE ENVIRONMENT

Before making a booking consider the environment and the use of available space and facilities. 

Hotels with ample outdoor space will be in a position to offer guests space to relax away from their bedrooms and without the risk of coming into contact with other guests. Lane End offers 26-acres of extensive grounds and four spacious terraces with outdoor seating.

There are various apps available to test upload and download speeds. Ask the hotel for a recent screenshot showing actual internet speeds.  

4.LOCATION

Location has always been vital when selecting a hotel, yet now you may want to be even more vigilant when selecting a hotel. With reduced access to the lounge, bar and dining facilities at hotels you may want to choose a location with easy access to local walks, and excellent proximity to takeaway diners and cafes. 

The advice remains in place to avoid public transport where possible. Therefore, consider the proximity to major motorways, airports and local rail links, and check that parking is free and secure, especially if it is a city centre hotel.
