Lane End Head Chef's Apprentice in MasterChef: The Professionals Final
Steven Edwards, a former apprentice of Lane End Conference Centre’s Head Chef Mike Day, is through to the final of MasterChef: The Professionals.
Steven, 26, who was mentored by Mike at the Corus Hotels Chefs’ School in 2003, has been chosen as one of four finalists in the televised cookery competition.
The four chefs will now go head-to-head to compete for the coveted MasterChef: The Professionals title.
Mike Day, Executive Head Chef at the award-winning conference and training centre in Lane End, recognised Steven’s talent when he selected him for an exclusive chef training programme ten years ago.
Mike said: “I first encountered Steven when I was Head Chef at Burnham Beeches Hotel.
“Steven applied to be an apprentice as part of a new nationwide training initiative to find promising trainee chefs.
“The first training programme of its kind, there were a huge number of applicants. Each Head Chef could choose the apprentice that they wanted to work with and without question Steven showed the most passion and enthusiasm so I picked him.
“Steven’s potential to produce complex, delicious dishes was evident from the start and it’s amazing to see him in the MasterChef final. I am rooting for him to take the overall title.”
For the MasterChef: The Professionals final the remaining chefs must undertake a series of extreme culinary challenges designed to test their abilities to the limit.
This includes preparing an exceptional dinner from a range of kitchen leftovers and cooking the ‘best three-course meal of their lives’ for the exacting MasterChef judges.
The final week of MasterChef: The Professionals starts on Monday 9th December at 8.30pm on BBC2.
As Executive Head Chef of Lane End Conference Centre, Mike Day leads a seven-strong team of full-time chefs across three kitchens.
Under Mike’s guidance the team create specialist catering for hundreds of visitors who attend corporate events, exhibitions and weddings at the venue each year.
These range from exquisitely presented Bento boxes for working lunches through to Black Tie gala dinners.
Situated in Lane End village, Buckinghamshire, 30-miles from the heart of the capital and major airports, Lane End’s conference and training venue is popular with London-based and international clients.
During the past 12-months Lane End has hosted events for a variety of household names, including camera retailer Jessops, the BFI Film Academy and the Royal Veterinary College (RVC).

“This means that we always go that extra mile, creating as much of the food ourselves from scratch, from the bread rolls to accompany the soup starters, to the creamiest homemade ice-creams and sorbets.”
Lane End Conference Centre receives a number of accolades for its high standards.
The purpose-built conference venue is currently on course to achieve the Gold Standard Accreditation for Customer Service for the second year running.
