Lane End Conference Centre To Host BFI Film Academy Residential

Britain’s brightest young filmmakers will be converging on Lane End Conference Centre in March and April for the first ever BFI Film Academy residential.

More than 50 filmmakers aged 16-19 will be attending teambuilding and training sessions at the Buckinghamshire residential conference centre.

The BFI Film Academy residential is being delivered by the National Film & Television School. Its alumni have included 2013 Oscar contenders Roger Deakins (Skyfall), Stuart Wilson (Skyfall) and Dario Marianelli (Anna Karenina).

The Film Academy is supported by the Department for Education in England. Other key partners include:

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA)
Creative Skillset, the organisation which supports training for Britain’s world class creative industries
Pinewood Studios, where the 007 Bond movies are filmed.
The residential will feature a series of masterclasses with leading filmmakers in specialisms such as directing, editing, producing and sound.

To qualify for this unique opportunity, the 16-19-year-olds had to demonstrate a passion for filmmaking, as well as providing scripts and online videos.

The residential will start on the weekend of March 9 and 10. Participants will be divided into six groups. Scripts written by NFTS graduates will form the basis of the work.

The weekend will start at the NFTS before the filmmakers travel to Lane End for fun team activities, an icebreaker to help them forge team bonds.

By the end of the weekend, the young filmmakers will have formulated the strategy for their movies so they can then start sourcing the various actors, locations and props they will need.

The main phase of the residential will run from April 2 to 12. It will include a full day at Lane End on April 11.

Lane End will be providing the filmmakers with their own exclusive training venue (Wycombe Hall) which includes a comfortable coffee lounge with table tennis, snooker and other games so they can relax after a long day’s work.

Wycombe Hall’s meeting rooms, dining room and bedrooms are in the same self-contained building. It has a deck with comfortable furniture overlooking the five-a-side football pitch, beach volleyball and extensive grounds.

Lane End Sales and Marketing Manager Heni Fourie said: “Buckinghamshire has a long and distinguished history of film-making, being home to world class studios such as Pinewood.

“So we are absolutely delighted to be playing a part in this Film Academy for the star filmmakers of tomorrow.

“We know from all the big names that are involved with this project that it’s going to identify and nurture some brilliant film-making talent - that is very exciting indeed,” he added.

The preparation weekend comes just 10 days before Lane End competes in its very own ‘Oscars’ for the conference centres and meetings industry - the M&IT Awards.

Lane End is a finalist in two categories: Best UK Conference Centre and Best UK Management Training Centre.

It is the second year in a row that this purpose-built conference venue has been a contender in the M&IT awards, which will be announced on March 19 at a gala dinner.

Lane End enjoys a high customer retention rate (87 per cent), thanks to its accredited gold standard customer service and its longstanding commitment to continually reinvesting in its high quality conference facilities.

Recent refurbishments at Lane End’s meeting rooms include free superfast broadband (up to 100Mb), making it ideal for events that require a lot of video conferencing or streaming of presentation videos.

Lane End’s 26-acre landscaped grounds and beautiful countryside setting also make it the perfect choice for outdoor weddings and company teambuilding events.
