What a trainer needs from a conference facility?
As a trainer, choosing a venue to host your next training event, especially over several days, can be a tough decision. Cost, location, catering, space and the technical facilities available at the venue all play a part in making the right choice.
Dr. Mike McLaughlin from Braver Leadership is a specialist in leadership and executive development. We spoke to Mike after his latest training course held at Lane End, and this is what he said; “Apart from venue, a key focus for any trainer is the development of the delegate. Ultimately, the aim is to raise awareness, provide tools and strategies but to be able to do that in the right surroundings is key.
In a venue, I look for something that looks professional but that isn't too corporate and sterile, with some greenery and outside space. My chosen training centre needs to provide good accommodation, good food, and of course well equipped and flexible rooms. Depending on the course, I will need varying levels of technical equipment but it is very important for me to have a training room with plenty of natural daylight.
Crucially, to make the day for my delegates, I need a responsive events team who are tuned to what I need to run a successful event. Being friendly, upbeat, and solution focused goes a long way and I would say that this almost always outweighs the extent of the facilities that the venue has – that’s why I use Lane End as it provides me with all the above. I'm not an expert in getting folks to turn up, but certainly working with a switched on, accommodating, and like-minded team/ venue really, really helps.
